Beyond Amazon: How to Choose Your Next Marketplace

Not every platform suits every brand. We explored alternative marketplaces beyond Amazon, and the next step is to evaluate them.

Here’s how to identify which marketplace deserves your focus.

Know your product-market fit

Start with customer behavior, not seller opportunity. If your category thrives on trust and repeat purchases, look to platforms with strong loyalty programs like Allegro Smart! or Bol(dot)com Select. If it’s a fast-moving consumer category, Walmart or MercadoLibre’s broad reach may perform better.

Evaluate competition levels

Check seller density and category maturity. Smaller marketplaces often have less saturation, which means lower CPCs and faster visibility. Winning the right niche on Bol can bring more sustainable profit than being one of thousands on Amazon EU.

Look at fulfillment options

Infrastructure determines scalability. Walmart Fulfillment Services, Bol(dot)com logistics, Allegro One, or Mercado Envíos can remove operational bottlenecks that limit Amazon sellers in new regions. If the marketplace handles delivery and returns well, it lowers your workload and customer risk.

Measure the ecosystem, not just traffic

A marketplace with integrated payments and financing (like Mercado Pago) or omnichannel touchpoints (like Walmart) gives you control over the entire buyer journey. Traffic alone doesn’t equal trust. The right ecosystem does.

Test before scaling

Run limited tests on new marketplaces with your best-selling SKUs.

Track revenue per visitor, fulfillment cost, and ad performance versus Amazon benchmarks. If the margin holds after fees, that’s your green light for expansion.

The best marketplace isn’t the biggest one. It’s the one that mirrors your buyers’ habits and minimizes friction between discovery and delivery.
